Nike's collaboration with Doernbecher Children's Hospital is not only a source of intense interest among the sneakerhead community but also a highly successful fundraising mission for the Oregon institution. The program goes far beyond simple funding, actively supporting and developing the design talents of its young patients.

This year, Medford-based Raegan Scheid joins the 2025 collection, presenting her unique take on the Nike Air Max DN8. Recently released official images allow us to fully appreciate this pastel composition. While we've previously only seen sketches, the official announcement reveals the full depth of the concept.

To understand the underlying meaning, one should refer to the words that Nike placed on the insert along with the shoes:

Nothing can keep Raegan Scheid away from the softball field—not even open heart surgery. Raegan's determination is matched by her creativity, which she fully embraced while creating these sneakers. The upper features reflective athletic graphics, and the Nike Air units feature a print that mimics the stitching on a softball. Happiest on the shore, Raegan feels the splash of foamy waves lapping against the soles. To help anyone going through difficult times, she shared her motto that keeps her going: "I CAN DO HARD THINGS."

These two elements-sport and the ocean-serve as the design's primary reference points. Beach motifs inform the graphic insoles, define the upper's vibrant color palette, and inspire the wave graphic on the midsole. A further nod to sport is the crossed beaded stripes on the gold metal lace buckles of the right shoe.

A particularly touching detail is found inside: two important dates are inscribed on the back of the tongue: April 3, 2024 (the date of her initial surgery) and May 11, 2024 (the day she returned to the softball field). These same dates are also embossed on the hang tag.

It's worth noting that each element of this model is not just decorative, but a testament to the resilience, creativity, and strength of spirit of a young woman who used her difficult life situation to create something positive and inspiring. All proceeds from sales traditionally go to support the work of the Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
